ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY LABORATORY

"COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE"

Kalco Metals, Inc. utilizes a monitored quality program that includes quality control and quality assurance measures and methods.  These measures and methods are directed by the on-site analytical laboratory and comply with the practices and methods described by ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 Guidelines.  Kalco Metals' is continuing its efforts and will soon be ISO Certified!

Operation of AA Spectrophotometer

Highly accurate and timely chemical composition analysis is achieved by utilizing Kalco Metals' exhaustive inventory of N.I.S.T.-traceable certified reference materials coupled with its on-site full-equipped analytical chemistry laboratory such as:

bd14578_.gif (200 bytes)      High-throughput and highly accurate LECO Carbon/ Sulfur/ Oxygen/ Nitrogen Determinators using ISO-compliant and industry proven combustion analysis techniques to provide carbon and sulfur composition as well as oxygen and nitrogen simultaneously.

bd14578_.gif (200 bytes)      State-of-the-Art Bruker-Quantron Magellan Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) with its unmatched reliability, innovative design and unique capabilities as well as excellent reproducibility capable of analyzing up to 20 elements simultaneously in iron, nickel, and cobalt based alloys and metals.   This instrument can reliably detect concentration ranges from trace amounts to reference ranges within a one to two minute testing time.

bd14578_.gif (200 bytes)         Wilson Tukon Vicker’s Microhardness Testing system complete with sample sectioning, mounting, and polishing capabilities. Microhardness testing has the unique ability to not only perform routine hardness testing of samples but also can analyze the hardness of a very small sample or a specific location on a sample.  This makes Microhardness testing ideally suited for testing case hardening, quenching effects, heat-treating effectiveness, and samples too small or too thin for Rockwell or Brinnell testing.  Kalco Metals can also analyze the hardness of common samples using Microhardness testing and convert the Vicker’s hardness to a Rockwell, Brinnell, etc. hardness scale.

In addition to testing your finished castings, Kalco Metals can also analyze the hardness of your wrought certified alloy in ingot or shot form produced at our facility and report the hardness value to you on the supplied Certificate of Analysis.  This supplied wrought hardness can allow you to more effectively monitor your heat treating results, better optimize your heating treating process for a specific final hardness, and more precisely predict the final hardness of the finished product.

bd14578_.gif (200 bytes)     Highly advanced Thermal Properties Analysis system along with novel advanced thermal analysis software that can analyze melts for many thermal properties such as melting range with liquidus and solidus, liquidus under-cooling, liquidus growth temperature, eutectic point, eutectic under-cooling and super heat temperature to name a few.  With this thermal analysis information, you can better optimize your casting and heat-treating processes to further save you money while producing a better quality product with less rejection.

Kalco Metals can also supply you a thermal analysis report for any of our alloys, containing all your required thermal analysis data plus corresponding cooling curves that can be compared on a heat-to-heat basis for consistency of the alloy.  The graphical representation of the thermal analysis can also serve as a reference for determining carbide and oxide formation temperatures as well as phase transitions.

NEW.....

Kalco Metals, Inc. is now participating in round-robin and blind-study testing with Analytical Reference Materials Inc. and Alpha Resources, Inc. to ensure standardization and normalization of its methods and instrumentation.  As a result of these independent testing trials, Kalco Metals' efforts are now assisting in the certification process of many certified reference materials now domestically produced!

Please contact the Kalco Metals facility for technical assistance or for any of your metal or alloy analysis needs.
